(our story)

Free Huey emerged out of the passions of the Black Panther Party for Self Defense. Its founders were fighters, not runners. When Panther leaders were imprisoned the community united, not fled from conflict. Free Huey channels the spirit of those in the 1960’s and 1970’s who committed their lifestyle toward social and political change.
Free Huey was founded in a small apartment in the impoverished Hollygrove neighborhood of New Orleans, Louisiana. The company was founded in February of the year 2016 by Aubrey Kelly and Haley Severin.
Free Huey developed from the creators’ understanding that race is a social construct they’ve deconstructed in their own lives. Looking outside that window to their Hollygrove wasteland below, they noticed dozens of categorized African-Americans still struggling from mental enslavement by the establishment.

We produce apparel with the understanding that clothes are an individual’s wings to soar. That’s why a sharply dressed man is considered “fly.” When you wear an article of Free Huey apparel, you make a statement, you are taken to the next level. Free Huey will serve as an iconic symbol of liberation.
